Cyber Bullying Consultation

In November the police worked with partners to find out what experiences young people had of cyberbullying during the launch of Anti-bullying day. Some young people from both the Police Youth Panel and Victim Support Youth Advisory Panel were there to help other young people when they shared their experiences. We spoke to over a hundred young people and the results were very interesting.

i.e. 73% of young people had been spoken to by an adult about what to do if they are cyberbullied. 20% of young people had experienced some form of cyberbullying, 24% of young people did not know about privacy settings or how to block nasty messages. 78% of young people knew that cyberbullying however could be a crime.

Laptop Trolley Keys

We have had some recent cases of schools not being able to locate keys for their new laptop trolley.  Please be aware that many suppliers attach the keys to the packaging that your trolley is delivered in.

Please ensure that you have located your keys before disposing of any elements of the delivery as replacements keys are £25.00 per set.

eSafety - 4e Safe Schools

Course Context and Audience:

This is an opportunity to review how well your school is covering all aspects of e-safety, based on the following themes:

Expectations - Using the Norfolk Toolkit as a starting point for writing your school rules for ensuring the safe use of ICT.

Education - Raising everyones understanding of the risks and how to reduce them.

Environment - Reducing the chances of inappropriate use of ICT in your school.

Enforcement - Using the Norfolk Toolkit to write policies and procedures to deal with people who do not meet expectations.

In preparation, you will be asked to check your schools current policies and provisions for e-safety. By the end of the day you will have developed your own road map for ensuring that all aspects of e-safety are covered in your school.

Developing Your Role as ICT Subject Leader

Course Context and Audience:

The course will provide the opportunity to support ICT Subject Leaders in developing their role within the Primary School.

By the end of the course participants will be:

• able to establish the school's vision for ICT and will have a clear understanding of how the Self Review Framework can be used to develop an ICT action plan;
• able to use the Norfolk ICT Scheme of Work to plan ICT opportunities for the delivery of embedded and discrete ICT within the new curriculum;
• able to have a clear understanding about how to track and record pupil progress in ICT using Norfolk ICT APP materials.

The Norfolk Identity is changing!

What is the Norfolk Identity (Id)?

Every Norfolk Id is unique and is the basis for access to an increasing number of online services. 

The Norfolk Id arrived with the need to provide every school child and member of staff with a unique email address.  To meet e-Safety guidelines a child’s email address must not reveal location or gender and this was one of the key drivers behind the format of the Norfolk Id.  Every member of a Norfolk school – staff and students – has a Norfolk Id. 

The current format of a Norfolk Id is first letter of forename followed by surname and then a number e.g. jsmith99

What is the Norfolk Id used for?

You may already be using your Norfolk Id to access email and the learning platform?  Our strategy is to increase the number of services that support the Norfolk Id therefore reducing the number of accounts that you have to remember to be able to login to each service.

Following this we will be introducing Shibboleth Single Sign on (SSo).  This will allow you to login once and be able to switch between Shibboleth enabled services without having to login again.  Any web based service provided by the LA is in scope for SSo; email, learning platforms, Remedy self service, etc.    

We are also working with our Regional Broadband Consortium (RBC) E2BN to deliver SSo across E2BN web services available to Norfolk schools.

Why is the Norfolk Id changing?

There are a number of reasons to change the Norfolk Id.  Key reasons are to:

• Ensure that the Norfolk Id is compatible with the E2BN developed regional Id – you will be able to use your Norfolk Id across the region;
• Make the Norfolk Id compatible with your schools Active Directory (AD) – usually the first place you have to login at school;
• Allow the Norfolk Id to be used, where not already being done so, by services such as the learning platform without conflicting with existing Ids;
• Allow colleges in Norfolk to use the Norfolk Id without potential conflicts with Ids in existing college systems – this is part of the 14 to 19 strategy and we are piloting this with Norwich City College.

The new Norfolk Id format will be first letter of forename followed by surname (limited to 10 characters to be compatible with your school’s AD), then a single digit followed by a 3 character alphanumeric sequence e.g. jsmith1nr7

How will this affect me?

The new Norfolk Id will only be issued with access to new services.  Your RM EasyMail email address and account details will remain unchanged. 

It may be necessary in the future to match the new Norfolk Id to existing accounts in the learning platform when moving to SSo.  We will always work closely with schools and suppliers to ensure that any changes are carefully managed and any impact is as low as possible.

Your school will only receive the new Norfolk Id through the AVCO AnyComms secure data transfer service.  Existing old style Norfolk Ids will continue to be visible in the email address field of returns sent back to schools and will continue to work in existing services such as RM EasyMail Plus.

When will I get my new Norfolk Id?

We are combining the release of the new Google email service with the launch of the new Norfolk Id.  Your new Google email account will use the Norfolk Id.

Availability of Assessment Packages

This is to advise schools that we are in consultation with Pearson Phoenix regarding the availability of Assessment Packages (http://www.eficts.norfolk.gov.uk/schoolmanagement/e1/performance_packages/packages.aspx).  The Packages are currently under test and will be made available as soon as possible.  Further updates will be available on this website as to when this will be.
