Tablets for Teachers Initiative

A number of schools have received a communication offering free tablets for teachers.

Our evaluation of the offer indicates that you have to buy one device for £120 before 25 July 2014 then you can nominate a school to receive a free tablet. It states that free tablets will then be distributed in proportion to nominations in September. Therefore there are no guarantees that free devices will be available to any one that buys devices.

The other risks are that the equipment offered is a very old specification, the supplier does not appear on approved government frameworks and there are no clear terms and conditions stated. Trading Standards are working with colleagues in London to verify further.

Therefore in the light of current information, NCC including county councillors recommends not to go for the offer.
