1. Secure Schools cyber score service. Sign up today!
Through our partnership with Secure Schools, we are pleased to re-share their ‘cyber score’ service, a free-to-use, global framework for cybersecurity in education.
Cyber score is designed to help schools benchmark, improve, and better protect against common cybersecurity threats by answering simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ statements to calculate their cyber score, built around leading cybersecurity standards.
As the first dedicated cybersecurity scoring system tailored specifically for schools globally, cyber score provides:
-
Progress benchmarking – Using set parameters, you can review your cybersecurity posture and see your score change as you take more actions to reduce risk.
-
Guidance tailored to regional and national standards – Ensuring that you can align your efforts with the requirements of your local, regional and national standards and guidelines.
-
Actionable insights – Highlight the most important steps you can take to reduce risk, in a self-paced and incremental manner.
Building on years of experience conducting audits with hundreds of educational institutions worldwide, Secure Schools have developed cyber score as a more effective, efficient, and engaging way to benchmark, improve, and protect you from cyber threats.
What is cyber score?
Cyber score gives you a structured, self-paced, modular journey to reduce cybersecurity risk.
With cyber score’s guided statements, expectations and achievements, you can take ownership of your cybersecurity, breaking the process into manageable steps, benchmarking against national averages, and specific guidance based on national requirements.
The statements you'll answer through cyber score are mapped to specific standards and guidelines. You can benchmark your school's cybersecurity posture against the DfE cyber security standards and the RPA.
Cyber score provides straightforward, actionable guidance that makes cybersecurity accessible for everyone.

2. Important Information: Phishing email sent to Norfolk schools
We are aware that some schools have recently received emails with Teams calendar invites, copying in Microsoft, regarding their licensing. They are coming from a variety of email addresses, making it difficult to block the senders.
If accepted, the invite contains a link which, once clicked, takes the recipient to a fake Microsoft log in page, where they are requested to log in with their credentials.
If you have received a similar email, please simply delete it, rather than decline it. If you have received such an email and signed in with your credentials, please notify your IT support team immediately.
As a reminder, there is this link on our website - How can I identify a Phishing website or email?
For more information, please contact the Service Desk on 01603 475603 or ict@norfolk.gov.uk
3. AnyComms Plus unavailability - May 28th, 07:30 - 09:30 hours
AVCO will be carrying out planned maintenance during the forthcoming half-term holiday period. On Wednesday, May 28th, between 07:30 and 09:30 hours, the service will be unavailable.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
For more information, please contact the Service Desk on 01603 475603 or ict@norfolk.gov.uk
4. Powering off core network equipment over the forthcoming holiday period
We would like to ask schools to refrain from turning off the power to the core networking equipment over the forthcoming holiday period. Core networking equipment includes routers, switches and servers, often in a wall or floor cabinet. These devices are monitored by ourselves, Rydal and Schools Broadband and turning off the power results in false alarms. This could potentially result in you incurring a charge for an engineer visit.
Please can we also kindly ask those schools who house LoRaWAN gateways to leave these powered on over the holidays, as they serve the community as a whole.
If there is no alternative to powering off the equipment, because of planned work, for example, please advise us in advance.
For more information, please contact the Service Desk on 01603 475603 or ict@norfolk.gov.uk
5. Telephony framework available for Schools and Academies
Are you prepared for the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) switch off?
If you haven’t started planning, you might want to think about your telephony service, in preparation for the PSTN switch off in 2027.
As a reminder, we have a telephony framework available for Schools/Academies to purchase from to give you confidence in upgrading your telephone system.
Each supplier will have had due diligence carried out on them and met certain standards for technical, financial, health and safety and pricing.
If you would like to learn more, please visit the Telephony framework webpage or contact us on 01603 475603.

7. Support for Office 2016 and Office 2019 ends in October 2025
Support for Office 2016 and Office 2019 will end on October 14th, 2025. After that date, no further updates, security fixes, or technical support will be available for these versions of Office. While the applications may continue to function, using unsupported software could lead to potential security risks and other issues. Because migrations can take time, we recommend starting to upgrade any remaining devices your organization has running Office 2016 or Office 2019 to a supported version as soon as possible.
For more information, please contact the Service Desk on 01603 475603 or ict@norfolk.gov.uk
8. Windows 10 support ends in October 2025 - Plan your upgrade to Windows 11 today!
After October 14th, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for Windows 10. Without regular updates, your device will be more susceptible to malware, viruses, and other cyber threats.
Staying on an unsupported OS (Operating System) may lead to compliance issues with industry standards and regulations. Some applications may also no longer work due to the increased security risk.
Plan your upgrade to Windows 11 today! More details can be found at the following link - Windows 11 upgrade information
