Analysis of the recent E.A.(Early Adopter) migration to schools and discussions with other potential EA schools, revealed that the project could not continue as a technical product replacement project.

Discussions with Pearson, a user group meeting and a workshop 2 weeks ago have led to the project being established as a business project with 3 stages.

The first is a recovery stage to address outstanding issues and reduce the potential impact of identified risks. The second will be to complete the EA stage and ensure that those schools that have migrated are satisfied with the product, training and support arrangements. The third stage is to roll-out the solution to all those schools who want to migrate and take advantage of a fully supported MIS product which will integrate with the Local Authority procured Learning Platform. This third stage is expected to commence in September 2007 and complete by December 2008.

E-Learning and E-Safety Conference for Norfolk Schools

All Norfolk Schools will be shortly invited to attend two one day conferences at the John Innes Conference Centre the key topics being:

  • e-learning
  • e-safety

The two conferences will be 30th October 2007 and 31st October 2007.

30th October 2007 conference will cover the key topics delivering the strategic visions and how to achieve them. Target audience Head Teachers, School Senior Management Teams and Governors.

31st October 2007 conference will cover the key topics however deliveries will be more of a operational nature within the classroom. Target audience Head of Subjects and Teachers.

The conference format for both days will involve keynote speakers, smaller breakout sessions and one to one surgery topics presenting the opportunity for schools to ask more in depth questions on chosen topics. A suppliers exhibition will be present as well as a Norfolk Schools show case and pupils using ICT on the day and sharing their experience with the conference delegates.

Full conference programmes for each event will be issue in the very near future.

Powering core networking equipment over the summer holidays

We would like to ask schools to refrain from turning off the power to the core networking equipment over the summer holidays. Core networking equipment includes routers, switches and cache servers, often in a wall or floor cabinet. These devices are monitored by ICT solutions and BT and turning off the power results in false alarms.

Schools Internet Downtime

There will be a short period of downtime for some emergency maintenance later this evening. This downtime should last no longer than 10 minutes and will be outside core hours.

Important announcement for transfer of pupils to e1 or CMIS schools

If you are sending a pupil to an e1 or CMIS school, then the file format sent must be a Common Transfer XML and not a mini datafile. This is because neither e1 or CMIS can import mini datafiles.

The e1 schools are:

  • Dereham Sixth Form
  • Framingham Earl High School
  • Hethersett High School
  • Lingwood Junior
  • Litcham High School
  • Neatherd High School

The CMIS schools are:

  • Blyth Jex High School
  • The Hewett High School
  • Notre Dame High School
  • Taverham High School

Domain Name Expiration Scam

We have been informed by Trading Standards of a scam that is being targetted at schools and NCC departments:

A faxed notification of "Domain Name Expiration" from the "Domain Registry of America" has been received by a NCC service. These appear to relate to the renewal of domain names used by the Council on the web. Trading Standards advise that these notifications are destroyed. Do not respond to them. It is a scam.

‘Challenging Every Child’ - 3rd & 4th July 2007

"Challenging Every Child", is a two day conference for heads, teachers and others concerned with the potential impact of ICT in education. It offers a chance to listen to world class speakers, engage in hands on workshops and see how innovation and best practice is offering new challenges to children across the region. The conference will also look at how ICT can be used across the curriculum to offer new challenges to pupils of all abilities, both in school and at home.
