Extending Network Address Space

If your school is running out of network address space (IP addresses) and you think that within this academic year you may need more, please contact the ICT solutions service desk and log a call.

We will be very shortly sending a request to extend a number of ranges to BT and would prefer to share costs across all schools that require additional addresses. The deadline for this change is Thursday 17th January 2008.

More details about the process of extending the school address space can be found on our web site.

Planned Downtime at February

We would like to remind schools that there is planned downtime during February half term. We have had a school notify us that there may be online exams during part of that week. If your school has exams or training sessions that cannot be rescheduled, can you contact ICT solutions with details of the dates and times so that we can alter our schedule.

One Click from Danger

This week the BBC broadcast a Panorama programme entitled ‘One Click from Danger’. This highlighted the dangers faced by children using the internet and how to keep them safe. Several schools have called ICT Solutions with concerns on how these dangers can be addressed both in school and for parents at home.

For those schools concerned with addressing this subject please be aware that Children’s Services has a product called Securus which we can offer to schools as a managed service. Securus themselves will also provide a separate home version free of charge for home computers, to address parents / carers concerns, if your school has Securus installed.

The programme was very informative and one which we would encourage schools to view.

Inclusive Training

Some schools are entitled to training as part of their contract with ICT Solutions.

Schools with a Bronze contract are entitled to one day training in Framework for ICT Technical Support (FITS).

Schools with Silver or Silver Plus contract are entitled to one day training in FITS (as above), plus one day training selected from the ICT Solutions portfolio of courses, also advertised on the ICT Solutions website – just go to http://www.eficts.norfolk.gov.uk/ and click on Training Services on the sidebar.

This entitlement to training will expire with your current contract, ie at the end of the financial year, so if you haven't already used your entitlement, don't delay!
