Photocopiers

Please be aware that a photocopier company is cold calling Norfolk Schools stating that they are ESPO approved and they are the cheapest supplier.

They state that they will buy out existing contracts so you can have a better value contract with them. ICT Solutions have benchmarked a quote from this company with ESPO approved suppliers and they are not cost effective for a school to use. The quarterly payments are a lot more.

Some schools have indicated that the company come across very pushy to sign the contract. Please do not sign a contract if you are not 100% confident. If you require assistance or would like help on choosing a new photocopier, please contact Leah Fletcher on 01603 475605 or email at leah.fletcher@norfolk.gov.uk

Generic Email Migration to Microsoft Exchange 2007

Audience: All Schools

As you are aware there has been ongoing work with the Norfolk Schools Internet eXchange (NSIX) filtering, email and web server updates. With the filtering migration almost complete the next phase, for email migration, is nearly ready for rollout.

A school information pack has been created with information about the email migration to a Microsoft Exchange platform.

If you have an email address which ends with @your_school_domain_name.norfolk.sch.uk then you are affected.

  • head@your_school_domain_name.norfolk.sch.uk
  • office@your_school_domain_name.norfolk.sch.uk
  • ictc@your_school_domain_name.norfolk.sch.uk
  • chairofgov@your_school_domain_name.norfolk.sch.uk
  • something_else@your_school_domain_name.norfolk.sch.uk

Personal RM EasyMail accounts (i.e. accounts ending in @ColourDomain.esinet.org.uk) will NOT be affected.

The RM EasyMail service for generic email accounts will be ceased and a new service will commence on the same day. Your email address will not change when migrated to the new system.

ICT Solutions have created a proposed email migration rollout schedule. Please be aware that the migration date for your school could be subject to change following the evaluation of the rollout to pilot schools.

Powering core school networking equipment over the Half–Term

We would like to remind schools to refrain from turning off the power to the core networking equipment over the Half–Term. Core networking equipment includes routers, switches and cache servers, usually located in a wall or floor cabinet. These devices are monitored by ICT solutions and BT and turning off the power results in false alarms. This could result in your school incurring a charge for an engineer to visit. Thank you.

Internet Access

Audience: Children’s Services Establishments (NOT SCHOOLS)

The following information is only applicable to Children’s Services establishments accessing the Internet via the Norfolk Schools Internet eXchange (NSIX) and NOT the County Hall service.

If your access to the Internet is unavailable after the 6th June 2008 then please contact the ICT Solutions Service Desk.

Please be aware that the Symantec Web Security (SWS) service, which provides filtered Internet access, will cease on the 6th June 2008.

All Norfolk schools will have been switched over to a new filtered Internet service (Bluecoat) prior to this date.

If you are not on the rollout schedule list and believe that you are connected to the Norfolk Schools Internet exchange (NSIX) then please contact the ICT Solutions Service Desk.

ICT Solutions telephone upgrade.

ICT Solutions is migrating to the Norfolk County Council telephone system during half term next week.

This is being done to resolve the issues some of you have experienced with unanswered calls and to give further functionality in the future to improve quality of service.

The switch over will happen on Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th May and will require some down time. This means that we might not be able to answer your telephone calls during this time.

The main ICT Solutions contact number 0845 3033003 and FAX 01603 475624 will remain unchanged.

However as part of the migration, some of our direct dial telephone numbers are changing but you will be informed of this when you next call and all original numbers will be re-directed to our new numbers for the next few months. If in any doubt or if you have difficulty calling please contact the service desk on 0845 3033003 and they will be happy to help you.

We will as always be able to receive emails and requests for assistance from our website during the switch over.

Just in case you have not used them before, the alternate contact details are below:

ICT Solutions service desk email address is ictsolutions@norfolk.gov.uk

ICT Solutions website call logging: http://www.eficts.norfolk.gov.uk/LogCall.asp

And for those of you using ICT Solutions Self Service: http://www.eficts.norfolk.gov.uk/Remedy/SelfService/SelfService2.aspx

Again the ICT Solutions 0845 3033003 number and FAX 01603 475624 are not changing.

For the latest information please see our website http://www.eficts.norfolk.gov.uk

Apologies in advance of any inconvenience this causes.
