Wireless Connection Problems

When a device fails to connect to the network via wireless, please check the following:

  • The wireless function on the device is switched on (also make sure that "airplane mode" is switched off)
  • Are you connecting to the correct wireless network. With sites having multiple networks (guest, staff etc.), are you connecting to the right one?
  • Have you entered the correct encryption key? Don’t forget that some codes are upper/lower case, include numbers and punctuation symbols!
  • Can other people connect okay? If no, it would appear to be a wider issue
  • Do you have a guest wifi at the school and, if so, is it accessible?

  • If it is not connecting, is the device out of range of the Wireless Access Point (WAP)? Try moving closer to the WAP and see if it connects
  • Is the WAP turned on? Also, even though it may be switched on it may have "locked out". Try turning the power off to the WAP for ten seconds and then turn it back on again. In some cases, it may not be possible to turn the WAP off e.g. it may be too high on the wall. If this is the case please call ICT Solutions for further advice
  • Check the WAP is connected to the network. There should be a network cable connecting the WAP to a network point on the wall, check it's plugged in at both ends
